How does a running competition work?
Create a match, share the invite code with friends, and pick a format: Race (first to hit a target distance wins), Most Miles (highest mileage by the deadline takes it), or Streak (hit your daily target every single day). Set a buy-in or compete for free. Every run is verified on Apple Watch, scoring is automatic, and the winner is paid out.
Is RunMatch a real money running app?
Yes. Buy-ins are paid through Stripe and pots are awarded to the winner's wallet. You can withdraw to your bank or debit card. New runners get a free $10 starter race — run 1 mile and we'll pay you $10 with no buy-in required.
Can I use RunMatch with my run club?
RunMatch is built for run clubs, training groups, and friend chats. Spin up a weekly running challenge for your crew — winner takes the pot. Works for 2 friends or 200. Group competitions scale with the buy-in.
How does RunMatch verify runs?
Real money on the line means we need real verification. Every run is recorded by the RunMatch app on your Apple Watch, with GPS and heart rate. Runs without heart-rate data, at impossible paces, or copied from another route get rejected, so fake miles don't count.
Is this gambling?
No. RunMatch is a skill-based competition platform — outcomes depend on your running performance, not chance. Same legal model as Daily Fantasy Sports and commitment-contract platforms. You're betting on yourself, not a roll of the dice.
How much can I win?
As much as your group is willing to put up. A 4-person match with $25 buy-ins creates a $100 pot, and the bigger the group, the bigger the prize. The average win in a one-day competition is $21, and the largest pot so far reached $740. Plus your free $10 starter race for showing up.
